You're Kidding

We were in Pigeon Forge with some of Jane’s family. While there, we visited the replica museum for the Titanic. A very interesting exhibit.

We were at the bottom of the replica of the grand staircase listening to the guide explain the rich details of this beautiful structure. 24 carat gold inlays, mahogany wood and detailed carving highlighted this featured structure of the Titanic.

The guide directed our attention to the beautiful floor of the staircase. “What do you think it’s made of?”, he asked. He continued, “Many would think marble or granite, but they would be wrong. This is the Titanic, the most luxurious liner afloat. Only the very best was to be used on the Titanic. Therefore the marble and granite were taken out to be replaced by the latest and finest. Only the best was to be used on the Titanic. The floor is made of linoleum.”

“You’re kidding”, was the expression written on all of our faces. But he wasn’t.

How often do we replace the truly valuable for simply what is the latest in the thinking of men? How quickly we move from the truth and simplicity of God’s word for the latest fad, the current trend in human thought, the newest program in church growth or whatever may be considered the wisest and best by those around us.

I wonder how often heaven’s reaction to man’s best thinking is “You’ve got to be kidding.”
