Proverbs

I read somewhere that Proverbs is the least read book in all of the Bible. I’m not sure where the author of that statement obtained his information. But I find that statement hard to believe.

Proverbs is the book of wisdom. It is God’s wisdom given mostly by a man considered to be the wisest man in the world. But, like all of us, he did not always act on his wisdom. In spite of his wisdom, he did many foolish things.

Allow me to challenge you to read Proverbs and to think about its practical lessons for everyday life and to look for the deeper meanings given in the words that are used.

Let me offer you a couple of examples.

Every wise woman builds her house, but a foolish one tears it down with her own hands. (Proverbs 14:1 CSBO)

Does this apply to the man as well as the woman?

What is her house? Where she lives? Her family? Her body, soul and spirit?

What are her hands? Her heart? Her words? Her thoughts? Her actions?

Whoever lives with integrity fears the LORD, but the one who is devious in his ways despises Him. (Proverbs 14:2 CSBO)

What is integrity? What are possible synonyms?

What does it mean to be devious?

Some things to think about.
