This week is our VBS. I can’t tell you how many hours have been put into getting this activity ready. I really can’t because I would have to count by days if not months.
This is one of the church activities that involves every age group and every talent regardless of how good or bad one is. So many people volunteer to do this, but my question is why? Why go to so much trouble, why do all this?
My two year old gave me some insight. She doesn’t want to take a nap because she might miss VBS. She wakes up asking if we are going to VBS, she is singing the Bible songs, she is talking about the characters from the night before, and she is excited to go to VBS! We do all this for the kids, to see our kids learn to be kind to each other, to see our kids learn the meaning of friendship and to see them get close to God and obey him. No amount of work is too little or too much when it leads our kids closer to God, but also everything that we do is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58 (NASB) “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”
