19 I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
20 I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.
21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
22 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
24 I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
(Lamentations 3:19-24 NIV)
I love those words from Lamentations.
Jeremiah remembers the sorrow and bitterness. Remembering brings him down. But then he allows his mind to focus on current realities and he has hope.
He notices the evidences of God’s continued love. His blessings and compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Therefore Jeremiah is determined to wait on God.
Tomorrow would have been mine and Cathy’s 49th wedding anniversary. As it is we didn’t even make it to 39. But I am filled every day with the continual love, compassions and blessings from God.
May we all trust His hope.
