1 Timothy 2:1-3
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
When Paul wrote this letter to Timothy it wasn’t the best of times for the treatment of Christians. In fact, many Christians were still being persecuted and many were being put to death. Paul was imprisoned on many occasions; he was beaten and taken to court more than a few times. However, he reminds this young minister to please pray for those that are in power. And the reason for that prayer is so that we as Christians may live in godliness and dignity. That prayer also is so that the people that don’t know the truth may come to the knowledge of it. Paul urged Timothy to do this, I believe that there needs to be the same urgency in us to the same. The reason? Because this is acceptable in the sight of God.
