This Saturday, we will meet at the building at 6:00 a.m. to prepare breakfast and load all the backpacks and sleeping bags into the buses to deliver to the homeless in downtown Birmingham at Linn Park. We will return to the building between 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. At that time, we will eat some biscuits.
The items in each backpack include the following:
Bible, Winter Coat, Long Sleeved T-Shirt, 3 Pairs of Socks, 2 Pairs of Gloves, 1 Pair of Sweat Pants, Toboggan, Toothbrush, Toothpaste. The ladies’ backpacks also include some feminine hygiene products. We couldn’t stuff the sleeping bags in the backpacks but will be handing those out as well.
The cost per backpack (including the sleeping bag) is $40.00 (I know, I know – we are excellent shoppers and love it when wholesale products go on sale.)
We need a ton of servants to pull this off successfully so please do not oversleep. When you are rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, make sure that you put on your Santa or reindeer hat, because we will also sing Christmas Carols with the homeless.
35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’ (Mat 25:35-36 NIV)
