Psalm 46:10 (NIV) He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
How hard is it to be still and do nothing? How hard is it to wait for someone when you are in a desperate situation? This week it has been raining a lot. When you are going home, look at how many people get so desperate to get to their destination. This week I have heard lots of cars honking, I have seen frustrated drivers and many upset people, and very few accidents. We just want to get somewhere so we can do something else, and when we are done with that activity, we will move on to something else.
God knows that we are always moving, and that after we are done with what we were doing, we want to move to something else. For that very reason he commands for us to stay still. In order to hear God’s voice, in order to see what he’s doing, we need to stay still! Our minds are always occupied with something. Our attention is grabbed by all kinds of distractions. Please be still, set all your struggles aside, set time aside to be alone with God, and you will see how exalted He is on earth; and that will bring you the peace of mind you need.
