He has told you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God?
(Micah 6:8 NAU)
To do justice is to do right toward one another. It is to “do unto others what you would have them to do to you.” It means to avoid showing favoritism. It is making decisions based on what is right, not on personal preference. It is speaking truth to everyone.
To love kindness is to love doing good. It is to love mercy and forgiveness. It means to put others ahead of yourself and to think of their interest as equally as you think of your own. It means to love others as you love yourself.
To walk humbly with God means to know that He is God and we are not. It means to surrender our will for His will. It means to allow Him and His will to change our thinking and our feelings. It means to trust Him even when we do not understand what He is doing nor why He is doing it.
This is what God wants.
