This scripture text reminds me that people will always find wrong. Although they have it good, there is always something to complain about. The people were being taken care of by God, and the reason their situation was bad, because they forgot the Lord. They blame God for the nations coming to attack them when they were the ones that spared those cities God told them to destroy.
Instead of the people recognizing it was their fault, they blame Samuel and God for their situation. Sometimes I have done something similar, like buying something I can’t afford and then blaming the company when they come and ask for their dues. I have neglected to take care of my yard and then received a notice that I need to cut it or else. We are responsible for our actions and our decisions and we reap what we sow. God wants to take care of us. He wants to be our King, our supplier and provider. We may not say it with words, but our actions sometimes show that we want to be kings and queens. It may show that we think we can do a better job than God.
Who do we want to take care of our family? Who do we want to take care of our country? Who do we want to take care of our world? We want a King! We want God!
