Over Spring Break, my family and I got to spend one day at the beach. Well, a few hours is more realistic. We prepared well since we only had a very short time. Sandcastle tools, swimsuits, towels, sunscreen, hats, and beach chairs. It was a very overcast day so I quickly put sunscreen on my face and shoulders but didn’t spend any more time applying generous portions of sunscreen on the rest of my body, because it was sandcastle time. Three hours later, I was cooked, fried, burned, not red but purple on my back and belly. Regrets? Ohhhh yes. Now, a week later, the itching is still in full force but the peeling is almost over.
Regrets, Regrets, Regrets.
Do you ever look back at your life and think, “What was I thinking?” Why did I eat so much or why did I eat or drink that? Why did I say that? Why did I do that? Why didn’t I…? After all these years, what is it going to take for ME to learn and act on what is best?
Why? Why? Why?
I wondered how many others have asked God all these “why” questions. 510 verses of the regrets of why. From time to time, we burden ourselves with thoughts, attitudes, and actions of the past and forget to focus on our hope for the future. Maybe this nugget of hope will be helpful for you today.
NIV Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest… 7 So, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you hear his voice, 8 do not harden your hearts… 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.”
Today I am reminded of hearts full of hope for Heaven like Jack Strachan (Scotland Missionary who passed away Sunday) and our dear brother and friend, Ed Pitchford. In Adam Creel’s prayer last night during our meeting, I will never forget these words, “They have won! They have made it home.”
That is the spur I needed to tackle today. No Regrets is the way to live. Today, fix your thoughts on Jesus. Today, focus on hope. Today, focus on the finish line. Today, invite Jesus into your thoughts, attitudes, and actions so that hope will respond for you today.
