He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Mic. 6:8 ESV)
God’s prophets were writing to the nation of Israel trying to get them to return to God. He was tired of their religious practice which was long on ceremony but had very little to do with change in their lives.
What did God want? What does He want now?
“Do justice.” Do what is right toward all men. Treat others fairly. Do toward others what you would want them to do toward you. Avoid being a respecter of particular individuals. Be fair, truthful and honest with all people.
“Love kindness.” Show mercy, forgiveness and patience toward all.
“Walk humbly with your God.” Honor Him as God. Listen carefully to His word. Do not move from it. Submit to Him and to His will.
These are the words the prophets wrote to try and save a nation.
We as a nation and as individuals would do well to heed these words from God delivered through His prophets.
