Psalms 90:12 So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom. (NASB)
As we were cooking for the men’s breakfast last Saturday, we were in a hurry to get things done. Time got away from us. We were talking and having a great time and then we see that we only had about 30 minutes and we were so behind with the food. The cooks started double timing it to get things ready when everyone gets there. Then someone says, “That clock is wrong! The wall clock is broken.” It was a great relief that we double checked the time. I felt so much better after knowing that we had more time than I was expecting.
The writer of Psalms reminds us that we need to learn from God how to number our days. That means God will enable his people to take to heart the lessons which the brevity of life should teach. There are things that remind us that our life is short and we don’t have all the time in the world. We can forget this truth when we live our lives and leave the Lord’s work for tomorrow. We are not promised tomorrow, we are promised right now. Now is the time to change. Now is the time to work. Now is the time to pray. now is the time to comeback to the Lord. When we work now, we will appear wise in the eyes of God.
