Titus 2:12 (Grace) teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. (NIV)
I can relate to what Titus says about earthly desires. We want what we want immediately. But when you have something great waiting, you are willing to say “No” to small things so that you can get the better thing. In this case, God’s grace is teaching us to say no. By showing us the great and magnificent gift of God’s love, grace demonstrates how God is willing to take us as we are and make us better than we were before. Grace shows us that what this world has to offer will never compare to what God has in store for us. IF God can do this, and give us His only Son when we are guilty and spare no expense for our rescue, then what do you think He wouldn’t do for us when we get to the heavenly realms!
When we know we have something better, it is easier to set aside the little things and teach ourselves to wait for the better things in life. God will spare no expense for us when we get to heaven. Knowing that, hopefully, it will be easier for us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions.
