Do you invite reminders or do reminders frustrate you? Growing up, my parents reminded us daily to “clean our rooms, put our dirty clothes in the dirty clothes hamper, dinner plates don’t have legs – put them in the dishwasher, do our homework”, and the list goes on. Now that I’m a parent, I find myself reminding my kids of the same things my parents told me. Why? We need REMINDERS.
As I write this, my dog is staring at me through the window barking his head off…so annoying. What is he reminding me to do? Feed him, pay attention to him, play with him for a few minutes. Done. As I write this, my computer is making loud noises. Message boxes are popping up reminding me that updates need to be downloaded and icloud storage is full. If I don’t address these issues, my computer bogs down and ceases to function the way it was designed.
So often, our response to reminders is simply to ignore or address them later. What will we do with the following reminder?
10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12 So I will always REMIND you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, 14 because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me….and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (2Pe 1:10-21 NIV)
Reminder: Be the light that points others directly to Jesus. We have his Holy Spirit within us to guide us along the journey, remind us of everything He taught and insure that we are anchored to truth. Prayers are with you all. Let’s be about His business.
