According to Isaiah chapter 36, in the fourteenth year of Hezekiah, king of Judah, Sennacherib, king of Assyria invaded Judah. The Assyrian king sent his military officer to speak to the people of Judah. He asked this question, “On what do you rest this trust of yours?”
Now that is an excellent question for all of us to consider.
This military officer was chiding the people of Judah for putting their trust in God to deliver them. In essence he was saying they were foolish to be putting their trust in God.
But it was the King of Assyria who was foolish to trust in his own strength. He lost 185,000 men and left Judah without capturing any of it.
On what do we rest our trust?
Maybe we should as another question. What trust do you have?
Do you trust in eternal life? Do you trust in heaven? Do you trust that you will be in heaven? Do you trust that you are accepted by God?
Now we can ask the question. On what do we rest this trust of ours? What is our reason for this trust?
Is it ourselves? Is it who we are and what we have done?
If our trust is not in Jesus, we have no basis for our trust. He is the way, the truth and the life, no one goes to the Father except through Him.
