Paul tells us we will be changed when Christ comes again. This perishable will become imperishable . This natural body will become a spiritual body. Paul says this change will occur “in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye”. (1Cor. 15:52)
This glory will belong to those who “are abounding in the work of the Lord.” (1Cor 15:58)
We do not yet know nor understand what our nature and life will be like when he comes. But this natural will put on the spiritual.
But in Christ, we are already striving to put on the spiritual. We are striving to die to our selves which is so influenced by the fleshly and physical and to put on the spiritual which is influenced by the will of God, the spiritual.
This is what Jesus was talking about when he told Nicodemus he must be born again.
Think of another illustration with me. Do you remember when the woman said to Jesus, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts at which you nursed!” (Lk. 11:27 ESV)? Do you remember Jesus’ answer? “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Lk. 11:28 ESV)
The woman thought the physical things Mary did of giving birth to Jesus, feeding him and raising him would bring her blessing. And they did in a limited, physical sense. But Jesus says the true blessing does not come through the physical but the spiritual. And what is the spiritual? Hear the word of God and keep it.
