put out fresh pine straw in our flower beds each year.
From my local gardening experts (my wife Jane and Terry Pruitt), I understand that pine straw is great for our plants. It helps to retain moisture, insulate the root systems, helps prevent weeds and improves the soil.
Jesus tells us that our hearts can be compared to the soil. And for the seed of God’s word to grow properly it needs to be planted in good soil.
There is some “pine straw” to help us with improving our heart soil.
The only proper food for our heart is Jesus. He is our bread and water of life. To eat this bread and drink this water we must feed on His word. To allow our food to properly feed our heart we need to apply our “pine straw.”
The word needs to be retained in our memory and put into practice so we will not forget it (James 1:23-25).
David talked about hiding or treasuring up God’s word in his heart so he would not sin against God (Ps. 119:11).
The righteous man meditates on God’s word day and night (Ps. 1:2).
God’s pine straw for the heart.
