The very first thing God created was light.
All six days of God’s creation and everything he created are important and significant in their own way, but it seems to me that the very first thing created is so very significant.
I really appreciated Matt Thompson sharing with us a few Sundays ago the importance of natural light to our mental and overall well being. He reminded us of the significance of starting our day with the natural light of the morning and ending our day with God’s natural light of the evening.
Driving in the dark, I love the tail lights of the cars in front of me showing me the direction I need to go. I love the headlights that light the way. I love the reflectors in the middle of the road, especially on dark and rainy nights.
I love the lights in my house when the electricity is on. I love my flashlights and candles when the electricity is off.
I love seeing where I am and the way I need to go.
It’s no wonder, then, that our relationship with each other and God is dependent on light.
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7 ESV)
By walking in the light of God’s will and proclaiming the light of God’s word, we become the light of the world.
