It’s All About Jesus
Sometimes reading the Bible is hard. There are things that God inspired that are not easy to understand (2 Peter 3:15-16). Although Peter the inspired writer makes this claim, he does NOT say that those things are IMPOSSIBLE to understand. Therefore, as we approach the text of scripture, let us do so with humility of mind as we wrestle with the text which God inspired. Perhaps something we should consider as we begin to open our Bibles is that the purpose of God’s revelation was to inform humanity about His son. There may be many details in between, such as learning not to steal and learning to be honest, but the overarching purpose of scripture was to reveal God’s son. Hebrews 1:1-2 says, “God, in various times and in various ways spoke to the fathers by means of the prophets; in these last days, He has spoken to us by means of His son.” Jesus himself speaks of scripture saying, “These things are that which testify concerning me” (John 5:39). Therefore, whenever we step up to consider what God is saying in His word, we ought to ask the question: “what am I learning about Christ?” This is not to say that every single detail in the entire corpus of scripture points to Jesus directly, but that much of it is centered on the promise, anticipation, and fulfillment of Christ’s work in the scheme of redemption. May God bless us in the reading of His word.
