Invitation

Have you ever been invited to…anything? Of course, you have. More than likely, you’ve been invited to multiple parties, events, get-togethers, business meetings throughout your life? Some, you wanted to be there. Others…not so much. Invitations are special, because the person throwing the party really wants you to attend.
I came across a letter today that was actually an invitation to “Call my MawMaw.” I wish I could, but she passed away several years ago. I remember vividly one of the last times I spent with her before she passed away in the nursing home. I painted her fingernails and held her shaky hands for a while so she wouldn’t lick the fingernail polish off before it dried. I helped her eat her dinner. She didn’t like her green beans so she kept trying to spit them out. She said, “they have no taste!” I tried one, and she was right so I spit it out, too. MawMaw laughed and laughed and laughed. That was the last time I heard her say my name. Do you know what she said? “I love you, Scott,” and she hugged me for what seemed to be an hour, and I didn’t let go until she did.
So often, we put off things until we have time, but the problem is that we seem to never have time for those MawMaw Moments. So…take time. This is your invitation.
Call your grandparents.
Call your parents.
Call your children.
Call a friend.
Call someone who has been on the fringe at church and tell them that you love them and why.
Call an enemy and apologize for your part.
Call someone who is struggling and invite them to your party. Yes, host a party for them.
GO!!!!
Visit a nursing home.
Visit an ER waiting room and invite families to pray with you for their loved one.
Have a Valentine Party for the widows at church.
Let’s take advantage of the opportunities we have been invited to participate.
