The book of Hosea is a sad and disturbing book. Putting ourselves in Hosea’s place arouses so many emotions within us.
A spouse who is unfaithful and goes after many different lovers. Children born to her who are not your own whom you are challenged to raise and love. The willingness to purchase her back from her lover who has enslaved her. The forgiveness. The hope of change and future love.
Hosea’s life is the story of God with Israel and with us. Our unfaithfulness to Him, our Creator and Savior. His offer of forgiveness. His desire to have us back.
The last verse of the book reads as a summary statement of the entire Bible. Do you want to know what the Bible is about? Well, here it is:
Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the LORD are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them. (Hosea 14:9 )
God is real. He knows us. He has done great and wonderful thngs for us. He wants us. He has spoken. It will be exactly as He has said.
