2 Samuel 23:11,12 “Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel’s troops fled from them. 12 But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory. “(NIV)
As you read the deeds of these mighty men, you will find their actions had a lot to do with the people they surrounded themselves with. These 37 warriors accomplished almost impossible things. Their courage and their bravery inspired many. I hope as you read their stories, you will get inspired to act and be brave for the Lord.
Shammah means “It’s there.” When you combine it with the name Jehovah, it means that God is there already. This warrior stood his ground when all the other soldiers fled. He was in the middle of a field, and that’s where he stood. We as men of God need to learn to stand our ground wherever we are. Many will leave and depart when they are being attacked. What was going through his mind? He was ready to defend what was entrusted to him, even if it cost him his life. In order to be a man of valor, we need to stand our ground in our beliefs for the Lord. Be one of God’s mighty men and stand your ground!
