“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” (Eph. 2:8 )
Grace is a gift. A favor.
Grace is the gift of God. That is important and often overlooked.
As humans we can give a type of grace to one another and we often do that. But even in human terms we understand we have no right to give a gift that isn’t ours to give.
The grace of God. The grace described for us in the Bible. The grace of salvation, is God’s grace and it is His alone to give.
Sometimes we treat God’s grace as if it is ours to do with as we please. But we are mistaken, it is God’s grace.
We must allow God to describe His grace for us. We can be dangerously misleading if we fail to do this. For instance, some say that it is impossible to fall from God’s grace. But that is not what God says. “You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.” (Gal. 5:4 )
This grace, this gift of God, is not ours to bestow upon others. It is God’s and God’s alone to give. He has told us it is given to us through Jesus. It is given to those who are in Jesus. “Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;” (Rom. 3:24)
Grace is God’s gift. That is an important thing to remember.
