Philemon 1:4-5
4 “I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,5 because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints” (NASB)
On Valentine’s Day people celebrate their love and friendship for one another. We buy gifts for our loved ones and friends. When I first came to the U.S.,I didn’t understand what this holiday truly meant. I would buy cards and small candy for all my friends. Some were men and some were women. Not knowing what it meant, I gave it to them. Later on in life, there were some girls that thought I was interested in dating them. Some came to me telling me that they were in a relationship and I had no idea why they were sharing that.
Aside from Valentine’s Day, I believe that Paul tells Philemon that the church was having a Valentine’s Day everyday! Paul was happy to hear that the church was so in love with Jesus and with one another. They didn’t need a special date or a special someone to share a special day. They were showing God’s love towards one another often! Practicing this kind of love towards the brethren will help fill the void that some may feel on this day. Here at the church we get to love each other everyday! We get to be appreciative of each other all the time.
