“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:14)
The word “fearfully” can carry the idea of awesome or to be in awe. The word “wonderful” can also be translated marvelous or amazing.
Just pulling that verse out of its context, how do you think David meant it? Do you think David was speaking from a standpoint of vanity? Such as, “I am a fine specimen of a handsome and fit man.”
Do you think there were things about David’s physical appearance he would liked to have changed?
Are there things you would like to change about yours?
Now, do yourself a favor and read the entire Psalm. Read it more than once. Read it from different translations.
God made you and shaped you in your mother’s womb. He knows every action and thought of your life.
God made each and every one of us. He made us to be in his likeness and image. David got that. He understood it. He praised God for it.
If we understood Psalm 139 better, we might take a different view of ourselves.
