John 21: 16 He *said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He said to him, “Shepherd My sheep.”
I asked a question to my kids, “How do you know I love you?” My daughter who is 16 said, “because you tell me.” Then I asked my son who is 13. He responded, “Because you do things with me, you spend time with me.” Two different people, two different answers, but really not that different. They perceive love from me in different ways, so in order for me to show them that I love them, I have to express it in different ways.
Jesus asked Peter a question for a second time. Do you love me? Peter’s answer was affirmative in the strongest sense. I love you more than anything in this world. I love you more than I love my life. I love you so much that I’m willing to die for you. Jesus’ answer shows us that whoever claims to love Him needs to do something. Jesus told Peter, shepherd my sheep. If Jesus were to ask you if you love Him, what charge would he give you? We need to be taking care of the sheep. We need to be taking care of the church. We need to be taking care of each other. Let’s show our love to Jesus by taking care of our brethren.
