Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
Have you ever been told half a truth? When it happened to me, I felt that someone didn’t trust me enough to tell me everything that I needed to know. I’m pretty sure other feelings came to play at that moment but not feeling trusted hurt more.
Paul, in Ephesians, tells them the truth of what Jesus did for us and expects of us. I realize that in the religious world, verse 10 gets neglected. Some religious leaders place more emphasis on verses 8 and 9. Verse 10 ties together these two verses. We were created. We were given new life by Jesus, and now we are new creatures to do something! We were not created to just sit around or wait until we mess up and know that God will forgive us. Jesus saved us to work, to do good works. The works that he has revealed to us.
When we read the New Testament we can find that the first disciples were always doing good works. Not to repay their salvation, not to earn their salvation, but to show that they were new creatures. They did this to show this dark world that their little lights were powered by the Light of the world, and that is Jesus. I encourage you to find areas to get involved. God created you for good works.
