Ephessians 4:22-24:
“ You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Do you have one of those annoying habits you are trying to break? Do you try to keep it a secret so no one knows that you either bite your nails, or maybe you are scared of feet, or even that you shake your leg every time you sit down like I do. Sometimes these habits will get us into trouble. When I sit on my pew on Sunday morning, I have to be careful not to shake everyone sitting in my pew. Sometimes my wife will remind me and I stop shaking.
However, there are some habits that have more consequences. Sometimes our minds will trick us into thinking that we are not hurting anyone. Sometimes our minds will tell us that it is okay to have this little habit, but we need to consider the consequences. Paul wants us to put away our old self. Whenever you want something from the old life, say NO! You are a new person! We are created in the likeness of God, not the devil. Let’s live our lives in righteousness and holiness.
