John 13: 36 Simon Peter *said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.” 37 Peter *said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You right now? I will lay down my life for You.”
Have you ever wanted to go with someone, but you couldn’t go? I’m sure as a kid there were places I wanted to go with my parents, but I wasn’t ready. Just like now, my little girl always asks if she can come when I’m about to leave the house. Sometimes I’m gone for a few hours, other times I’m gone all day, and other times I’m gone for days. There are trips she can’t make with me now. She may do those trips later.
Peter wanted to go with Jesus when Jesus talked about his death. Peter didn’t want to live in this world without Jesus. He was his source of comfort, strength and his friend. Peter was ready to die when Jesus would die. It just wasn’t his time. There were things undone on this earth that Peter was meant to do. He wasn’t ready for heaven yet. He needed to wait. One day Peter was going to see him again and be by his side forever. It is comforting to know that one day, we will see our loved ones and that we will be with them forever.
