“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” – Matthew 11:28
Having two girls, it has been my mission in life to make sure that they are independent. I want them to be able to do things for themselves. I want them to not have to rely on anyone. I want them to understand finances. I want them to understand politics. I want them to be able to pump gas and check the oil. And most times when I am out in the garage, one of them will be by my side handing me wrenches and asking questions. When something of theirs breaks, I require they take a shot at fixing it before they ask me for help.
Several weeks ago, Megan was having trouble with her ipad. She called to me in frustration and said, “Dad, I have tried to fix it but I just can’t”. I called back to her room, “Bring it here and I will fix it.” Several hours later Lauren called out to me, “Dad, I need your help.” I called back to her and said, “Bring it here and I will fix it.” Several hours later I get another call, “Dad, I need your help. I just can’t fix it.” And again I called out, “Bring it here.”
And about that time a ton of bricks hit me and I got it. I realized that is exactly what my Heavenly Father is doing with me. When I have a problem in my life that I can’t fix, my Heavenly Father looks down on His child and says, “Bring it here and I will fix it.” When I go through the valleys of life, my Father expects me to come to Him so He can fix it. When things break and go completely wrong beyond what I am able to handle, my compassionate and kind and loving and nurturing Father wraps His arms around me and says, “It’s okay, I will fix it.”
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken – Psalm 55:22
