God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,in these last days has spoken to us in His Son,whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
(Heb 1:1-2)
I believe in God.” “I believe in Jesus.”
These words are often acknowledged and confessed by those who profess to be Christian. But what do we mean when we say them?
It seems that some people mean, “I believe in God and He will accept me and love me no matter what I do.” Others seem to say, “I believe in God as I know Him in my own heart and mind.”
I raise these questions for us to consider because Jesus raised the same question.
“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luk 6:46)
Jesus is pointing out the contradiction in acknowledging Him as Lord with our mouth and ignoring what He says.
If I believe in God should I not believe what He says? If I believe in Jesus should I not believe His words?
Too often we focus on a false god contrived in our own thoughts and feelings and ignore the true God who has spoken to us.
