2 Samuel 23:15 David had a craving and said, “Oh that someone would give me water to drink from the well of Bethlehem which is by the gate!” 16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, and drew water from the well of Bethlehem which was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord;” (NASB)
Here we have a story of these 3 men who wanted to do something for King David. David had a craving, and it was a valid one. However, David wanted water from a specific place. These 3 men risked their lives to go get it and bring it to him. These 3 men were not asked, they were not ordered nor commanded to do so. David had 400 people with him, but these 3 mighty men put it on their shoulders to go get the water for David.
We need to have the attitude of these 3 men. When we hear of a need, we need to get up and fulfill that need. We don’t need permission from other people to serve. We don’t need to ask for permission to make a phone call to someone who is sick. As soon as we hear of a need, we need to take it upon our shoulders to fulfill it and serve our King, Jesus is our King! Fulfill his wishes.
