If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
John is one of my favorite writers. His kind heart and the way he addresses the church make him be the type of person you want to see in church on Sunday. John writes to believers. This letter is not new information, but rather a reminder of their beliefs. For that reason, this verse is so important for us today. We as Christians are going to make mistakes. We are going fall short in our walk with Christ. We are going to sin and sometimes more than once. This verse brings so much confidence to our walk that John writes this letter to circulate all around the brethren. He writes so that all brethren, wherever they may be, can understand this. God will forgive us. God will give us another chance. God will bring the healing we need, if we just recognize that we have sinned, if we recognize that we transgressed against him, and if we will just bring ourselves to confess.
